POWER MACINTOSH VERSION
If you have a Power Macintosh, the Imagination Express Installer will install a native Power Macintosh version of Imagination Express.
PRINTING
To ensure correct format of printed E-Books, use the ╥Page Setup╙ menu item in the Imagination Express Adult Options:
Ñ Set the orientation to ╥Landscape.╙
Ñ Click ╥Options╙ and make sure the ╥Larger Print Area╙ check box is unchecked.
Note to QuickDraw GX users: If you have QuickDraw GX installed and fonts print incorrectly when using the 1.0 version of Destination: Castle or Destination: Neighborhood, you may need to disable QuickDraw GX to print correctly.
MEMORY
Imagination Express requires about 4.5 MB of free RAM (RAM not used by other applications, extensions, control panels, etc.).
To check free RAM available, quit all open applications and select ╥About This Macintosh╙ from the Apple menu. Note the number next to the ╥Largest Unused Block╙ label. This number must be at least 4500K (4600K on a Power Macintosh).
Note: When you select the icon for Imagination Express in Apple╒s Finder¬ and choose ╥Get Info╙, the Memory Requirements displayed are all set to 1800K (1925K on a Power Macintosh). When launched, Imagination Express requires an additional 2500K beyond this number. We do not recommend changing the size of the Memory Requirements.
You can free additional memory by disabling non-essential Extensions and Control Panels (stored in the Extensions folder and Control Panel folder within the System Folder). To disable specific extensions, place them in a folder outside your System Folder or, if using System 7.5, use the ╥Extensions Manager╙ Control Panel.
Do not disable any of the following extensions which are required by Imagination Express:
Ñ QuickTime¬
Ñ Sound Manager (if any)
Ñ Apple CD-ROM (or third party CD-ROM extension)
Use the Memory Control Panel to set other memory features:
Ñ RAM Disk off.
Ñ 32-bit addressing on (if displayed).
Ñ Cache Size to 96K or lower.
Ñ Virtual Memory on (if desired) to utilize unused hard drive space as RAM. However, using Virtual Memory may affect video and sound quality.
Consult your Macintosh User╒s Guide for more information.
SOUND
Use the Imagination Express Adult Options to change sound volume. You can change the volume in Imagination Express without affecting the volume in other applications.
VIDEO
Imagination Express displays up to 800x600 pixels on a 16-inch or larger monitor, if enough memory is available. On a smaller monitor, or in low memory situations, 640x480 pixels are displayed.
SAVING E-BOOKS
The Imagination Express folder on your hard drive contains a ╥Shared Documents╙ folder and a ╥Users╙ folder. Inside the ╥Users╙ folder are individual folders for each user that has been added to Imagination Express. When saving E-Books, users can choose to save in these personal folders or in the Shared Documents folder.
When running Imagination Express from KidDesk, the Document Access Options in KidDesk control where Imagination Express E-Books can be saved, and kids╒ documents are saved in their KidDesk folders.
ONE DOCUMENT MODE
When a user is set to use One Document in the Imagination Express Adult Options, an E-Book named ╥My Castle E-Book╙ (or ╥My Neighborhood E-Book╙ or ╥My Rain Forest E-Book╙) is automatically created in the user╒s folder. Each time the user clicks ╥Edit╙ to enter the E-Book maker, this document is opened. For a young child, you may wish to create an E-Book with favorite backgrounds, save this document as ╥My Castle E-Book,╙ and place it in the personal folder. The next time this child uses Imagination Express, that E-Book is automatically opened.
